REGIONAL ORGANIZATIONS

The International Organization for Medical Physics has a membership of 6 regional organizations, namely AFOMP, EFOMP, FAMPO, ALFIM, MEFOMP, SEAFOMP.

The Asia-Oceania Federation of Organizations for Medical Physics (AFOMP) was founded in 2000 to promote medical physics in the Asia and Oceania regions, through the advancement in status and standard of practice of the medical physics profession.

The European Federation of Organisations for Medical Physics (EFOMP) was founded in May 1980 in London to serve as an umbrella organisation for all NMOs (National Member Organisations). The current membership covers 34 national organisations which together represent more than 8100 medical physicists and clinical engineers working in the field of medical physics.

The Federation of African Medical Physics Organizations (FAMPO) is the regional federation of the International Organization for Medical Physics in Africa. FAMPO is a non-profit making organization established in March 2009 to promote the application of physics in medicine.

The Latin American Medical Physics Association (ALFIM) represents the medical physicists in the Latin America region. ALFIM was established on July 18, 1984 at the 26th Meeting of the AAPM and the 1st Inter-American Meeting of Medical Physics in Chicago. ALFIM is affiliated with the IOMP in August 1985.

The Middle East Federation of Medical Physics (MEFOMP) is established to promote advancement in medical physics, to educate and train local society members for new procedures and technologies, to encourage exchange of expertise and information among societies and organize regional conferences and symposiums in the Middle East region.

The South East Asian Federation of Organizations for Medical Physics (SEAFOMP) was officially formed when it was accepted as a regional chapter of the International Organization for Medical Physics (IOMP) at the World Congress on Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering, held in Chicago, Illinois, in 2000. SEAFOMP was established with the primary aim of helping to raise the profile of medical physics, via education and training, in ASEAN.
