Dear IOMP,
We are pleased to inform your good office that the medical physics professional organization acquired its Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) registration, a big step for the society to be recognized by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC). The PRC is the Philippine agency responsible for regulating and supervising the practice of professional individuals according to knowledge base and practice. The Philippine Organization of Medical Physicists (POMP) has been renamed the Society of Medical Physicists of the Republic of the Philippines (SMPRP).
The society will celebrate the International Day of Medical Physicists on November 7, 2016, in East Avenue Medical Center, a Department of Health government hospital who acknowledge the need of medical physicists particularly in the diagnostic radiology department. The program will include:
Oath taking of the first set of officers;
Inspirational Message from Dr. Paulyn Jean B. Rosell-Ubial, Secretary of Health;
History and Milestones of Medical Physics in the Philippines by ASEC Agnette P. Peralta M.Sc., Assistant Secretary of Health and OIC Undersecretary of Office for Health Regulation;
We also would like to inform your good office that the country is having generous support from both government and private hospitals in the conduct of the IAEA project RAS6077: Strengthening the Effectiveness and Extent of Medical Physics Education and Training (RCA). The program has forty-five (45) residents from radiation oncology medical physics (ROMP), diagnostic radiology medical physics (DRMP) and nuclear medicine medical physics (NMMP) which started last June 2016. Also, at the end of the year there will be treatment planning workshops and scientific lectures. The Department of Health will also conduct a workshop on Duties and Responsibilities of Medical Physicists in the Philippines (ROMP, DRMP, NMMP and Health Physics).
The medical physics community in the Philippines is continually gaining recognition. This is due to hard works and perseverance of our advisers, endless support from the national steering committee, guidance and expertise from senior medical physicists, and enthusiasm from new members of the society. In behalf of the Society of Medical Physicists in the Republic of the Philippines, we join and congratulate the IOMP and its members in the celebration of IDMP with pride and joy.
Respectfully yours,
Dan Joseph S. Manlapaz, CMP
President-Elect, SMPRP
