The University of Eastern Finland (Kuopio campus) offers a multidisciplinary two-year master’s programme in medical physics that combines high-quality teaching and a top-notch research environment. This postgraduate programme is designed for students of any nationality, and no more than 15 students are accepted to it. To be suitable for the programme, the applicant is expected to have successfully completed a three-year bachelor’s course or have an equivalent university-level degree in a relevant field (physics or engineering), as well as excellent abilities in both written and spoken English.
The core content of the master’s programme in medical physics is designed to prepare and equip students for a career in the field of medical physics and technology. A key strength of this programme is the opportunity it provides for each student to create the combination of courses, project work, and internships that best suits his or her own professional goals.
‘Learning by doing’ has a major role in this programme. Successful participants have an opportunity to apply their theory-based knowledge in practice via an internship at Kuopio University Hospital. Students willing to add a research component to their studies can complete an internship with one of the high-standard research groups of the University of Eastern Finland’s Department of Applied Physics. In addition, those interested in hands-on learning are able to conduct medical-physics or technology project work on a topic of their interest.
In addition to the training in medical physics, students will gain critical research skills necessary for postgraduate studies in the field of medical physics and technology. Moreover, the programme serves as a launchpad for young and talented students seeking a career in the medical-technology and diagnostics industry. Students who have successfully completed the programme will be awarded a master’s degree in medical physics.
Application is open until 22.1.2020, for the 2020-2022 programme.
