  1. Call for Nominations Marie Sklodowska-Curie Award

The IOMP is pleased to announce the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Award. This award is established to honour scientists who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to the education and training of medical physicists, medical students, medical residents, and allied health personnel, advancement of medical physics knowledge and advancement of the medical physics profession.
The Marie Sklodowska-Curie Award will be given at the 2018 World Congress on Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering in Prague and will be announced on 2nd March, 2018*.

The Marie Sklodowska-Curie Award consists of a bronze plaque and additionally a short biography of the awardee will be published in the IOMP Newsletter Medical Physics World.

Criteria for selection:
• The recipient of the award should be a professional medical physicist holding a PhD and should be an active member of the relevant Medical Physics society.
• The recipient should have made an outstanding contribution to education and training in medical physics, or
• The recipient should have published independent original research of high scientific quality and impact in medical physics in the past three years, or
• The recipient should have provided a significant contribution to Medical Physics profession in the IOMP affiliated national and international organizations.

Nominating Procedure
• The award will be advertised on the IOMP mailing list and website.
• Self-nomination will not be considered.
• Nominations can be made to the Chair of the IOMP Awards and Honors Committee (AHC) by IOMP National Member Organizations (NMO) or individuals through their NMO. Where this is not possible, nominations should be made directly to the Chair of the AHC.
• The nomination should include the following:
1. A letter of not more than 1,000 words summarizing the nominee's achievements and identifying the specific work to be recognized.
2. A Curriculum Vita including all publications and professional contributions to Medical Physics organizations.

Nominations should be sent to Dr. Simone K. Renha, Chair of the IOMP Awards and Honours Committee (AHC) at simone@cnen.gov.br by 15th February, 2018. Submissions should be in the form of: MS Word or PDF document. Nominations will be acknowledged by e-mail. If you do not receive an acknowledgement within 72 hours please contact Dr. Simone or the Secretary General of the IOMP at sg.iomp@gmail.com.
The winner will be announced on 2nd March, 2018.
*The winner will receive financial support to attend the congress.

  1. Call for Nominations Harold Johns Medal

The IOMP is pleased to announce the Harold Johns Medal. This award is established to honour scientists who have distinguished themselves by their contributions through excellence in teaching and contributions to international education.
The Harold Johns Medal will be given at the 2018 World Congress on Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering in Prague and will be announced on 2nd March, 2018*.

This award consists of an IOMP Medal and additionally a short biography of the awardee will be published in the IOMP Newsletter Medical Physics World*.

Criteria for selection:
• The recipient of the award should be a professional medical physicist holding a PhD who should be an active member of the relevant Medical Physics society.
• The recipient should have demonstrated excellence in teaching and provided an outstanding contribution to international education and training in medical physics.

• Self-nomination will not be considered.
• Nominations can be made to the Chair of the IOMP Awards and Honors Committee (AHC) by IOMP National Member Organizations (NMO) or individuals through their NMO. Where this is not possible, nominations should be made directly to the Chair of the AHC.

  1. Call for Nominations IDMP Award of the International Organisation for Medical Physics (IOMP)

International Day of Medical Physics

2018 IDMP Award [Deadline 28 Oct 2018]

The IOMP is pleased to announce the IDMP Award. This award recognises excellence in Medical Physics with a particular view of promoting medical physics to a larger audience and highlighting the contributions medical physicists make for patient care. The IDMP Award is linked to the International Day of Medical Physics (IDMP) from which it takes its name. The 2018 IDMP theme is “Medical Physics for Patient Benefit”.

The 2018 IDMP Award will be given on the occasion of the celebration of the International Day of Medical Physics (IDMP) and will be announced on November 5, 2018.

The IDMP Award consists of an IOMP certificate, and additionally a short biography of the awardee will be published in the IOMP Newsletter Medical Physics World.

Criteria for selection:

·      The recipient of the award should be a professional medical physicist holding a master’s or higher degree or equivalent, who is an active member of the relevant Medical Physics society.

·      The recipient should have taken active part in promoting medical physics, nationally or internationally.

·      The recipient should have performed original and/or applied work of high scientific quality or made a significant professional contribution to Medical Physics in the past three years.

·      It may be noted that only deserving candidates will be selected. If no one meets the requirements from the region, no award will be given.

Nominating Procedure

 ·      The award will be widely advertised on the IOMP mailing list and website.

·      The President of each IOMP Regional Organisation is kindly requested to nominate three medical physicists from her/his respective region. The Presidents of AAPM and COMP are kindly requested to nominate jointly three medical physicists from the North American region. Nominees should be full members of an IOMP National Member Organization (NMO).

·      Self-nomination will only be considered in exceptional circumstances.

·      Nominations are to be made to the chair of the IOMP Awards and Honours Committee (AHC)

·      The nomination should include the following:

1. A letter of not more than 1,000 words evaluating the nominee's achievements and identifying the specific work to be recognized.

2.      A Curriculum Vita including all publications and professional contributions to Medical Physics organizations.

One medical physicist from the three nominations per region will be selected by the AHC to receive the award.

  1. Call for Nominations IUPAP Young Scientist Award in Medical Physics 2017

The IOMP is pleased to announce the IUPAP Young Scientist Award 2017. This award was established and funded by the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) and awarded by the International Organization for Medical Physics (IOMP) as the IUPAP affiliated International Commission for Medical Physics. The IUPAP Young Scientist Awardee for 2017 will be approved during 2017 and presented at the XXV World Congress on Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering (WC 2018) in Prague, Czech Republic, June 3rd – 08th, 2018.

The Award will include a cash prize of 1000 Euro, an IUPAP medal1 and the IOMP certificate. In addition, a short Biography of the Awardee will be published in Medical Physics World.

Criteria for selection:

• The recipient of the award should be under 40 years as of 31 December 2017 and be on the 5 years of research development in medical physics.
• The recipient should have performed original and/or applied work of outstanding scientific quality in medical physics. The committee may consider the achievements in the context of opportunity.
• The award may only be received one time by any individual.

Nominating Procedure

• The award will be advertised by the International Organization for Medical Physics (IOMP) on the organization’s website: http://www.iomp.org
• Self-nomination will not be considered.
• Nominations can be made to the Chair of the IOMP Awards and Honors Committee (AHC) by IOMP National Member Organizations (NMO) or individuals through their NMO. Where this is not possible applications should be made directly to the Chair of the AHC. They should include the following:
1. A letter of not more than 1,000 words evaluating nominee's achievements and identifying the specific work to be recognized.
2. One letter of support (up to a maximum of three pages from someone not at the nominee’s institution and not a mentor or significant collaborator
3. A Curriculum Vita including publications during the last 5 years, which not exceed two pages.
4. List of 5 of the candidate’s most significant publications, including citation information, not to exceed one page.


The closing date for nominations is noon (EST) on 10th November 2017. Nominations should be sent to Dr Simone Kodlulovich Renha at simone@cnen.gov.br. Submissions should be in the form of: MS Word or PDF document. Nominations will be acknowledged by e-mail.   1. Call for Nominations 2017 IUPESM Awards of Merit IFMBE

IUPESM honors individuals with its IUPESM Awards of Merit which recognize every three years a Medical Physicist and a Biomedical Engineer who have established distinguished careers in Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering, respectively.
The IOMP Awards Committee acts as the IOMP Sub-committee to the IUPESM Awards Committee and is responsible for the selection of the medical physicist to receive the award. Further information on the Criteria for Selection and on Nominating Procedure can be found at www.iomp.org .
The IFMBE Awards Committee acts as IFMBE Sub-committee to the IUPESM Awards Committee and is responsible for the selection of the Biomedical Engineer to be awarded. Further information on the Criteria for Selection and on Nominating Procedure can be found at http://www.ifmbe.org/ .

With the Awards of Merit, the IUPESM honors a medical physicist and a biomedical engineer who have established distinguished careers in their fields. With great satisfaction, the IOMP Awards Committee acts as the IOMP Sub-committee to the IUPESM Awards Committee and is responsible for the selection of the medical physicist to receive the award. The recipient of the 2018 IUPESM Award of Merit in Medical Physics will be selected during 2017 and presented at the XXV World Congress on Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering (WC 2018) in Prague, Czech Republic, June 3rd – 8th, 2018.
The Award will include the IOMP certificate, travel funds to attend the WC 2018 in Prague and the opportunity to make a presentation on the awardee’s scientific and professional contributions to medical physics. In addition, a short biography of the awardee will be published in Medical Physics World.
Criteria for selection:
● The recipient should have made a significant impact in the science and scientific practice of medical physics
● The recipient should have participated meritoriously in national and international organizations for medical physics and have significantly influenced the development of the profession of medical physics.
● The award may be received only one time by any individual.

● Self-nomination will not be considered.

1. A curriculum vitae, not exceed two pages, that includes publications during the last 5 years.
2. A one-page write-up on the significant contributions made in relation to the criteria stated above.
